Permanently based at Punsand Bay, our crew provides transfers around Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands for locals and visitors. Our operations are extremely flexible and we can align our departure days and times to suit your requirements, whilst maintaining compliance and safety. Our Torres Strait Islands heli transfers are direct flights, but due to our location, they’re also very scenic flights. Communication between pilot and passengers is made possible with headsets, which enables us to point out any marine and wildlife we may see enroute, including sea turtles, manta rays, dugongs and crocodiles. At Coastal Rotors we fly a Robinson R44 helicopter, which takes a maximum of 3 adult guests (plus pilot) in a 2 x 2 cabin configuration (see our FAQs for more information regarding children and weight limitations). Due to the nature of helicopters, weight and luggage restrictions do apply and if you have any queries or concerns regarding this, please contact us. Prices for our set transfers are based on departures from Punsand Bay and include airport landing and passenger fees. Personalised transfers are also available.
Coastal Rotors provide transfers from Punsand Bay to Horn Island (Ngurupai Island), part of the Torres Strait Islands inner islands. The Horn Island Airport is widely considered the gateway to the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area and is owned by the Torres Shire Council.
Our Torres Strait Island heli transfers also include journeys from Punsand Bay to Thursday Island (Waiben Island), which is the administrative hub for the Torres Strait Islands. If you have time, we recommend an island tour to discover the area’s rich cultural and military history.
We also provide heli transfers to the Northern Peninsula Airport (Bamaga Airport). From here you can access flights connecting Cape York with the rest of Queensland, the Torres Strait Islands and Australia, thanks to the operations of REX Regional Express and SkyTrans.
